Visa Grant Delay 189

Take note that trends from the previous years are irrelevant considering the allocation of 189 visa last year was at 44,000 (33,580 filled - 76%) against this years 12,652 (exclusive of the NZ residents). Do not expect the pace to drastically increase. Since December of 2019, the pace shows roughly 700 to 1000 grants (primary + secondary applicants) taken from ~5% representation of actual grants from immitracker. You can validate this 5% relationship from the data provided by DHA FOI. In short, it will just take 50 to 70 cases of visa grants per month that will be visible here in immitracker to fill up 80% this year’s 189 visa allotment until June.

There are 186 immi tracker visa lodged in March, 44% of which have already been granted or contacted by CO officer. Actual visa lodge in March as pero FOI document is at 2836, April 1489, May - 796. We can say that their current capacity since December is at 300 to 500 cases per month (per case includes primary and secondary applicants). The current backlog still sits at ~ 10,000 applicants or roughly 4000 cases.

So by when do you think March applicants will be cleared at worst?

:frowning: I wish I had 80 points in march 19 only when i submitted EOI initially
as I have updated the EOI in December’19 for 80 points in S/W engg quota. I don’t even want to think about the invitation month. But atleast I feel good when I read people are getting grants.

My analysis is as follows: March total cases lodged: 2836 Granted or CO: 1260 Pending: 1576 Current monthly capacity: 300 grants (worst case) Therefore, time taken to clear the pending cases: approx 5 months.

Hence March applicants can expect their grants maximum by June 2020? That seems horrendous.

You cannot really say that each month can be 100% cleared. August to November of 2019 had only a total 25 grants in immitracker. Processing times of those cases as per DHA was at 12 to 20 months. If you notice, they put 75%, and 90% breakdown in the processing times. That means that the majority (75%) of the cases are processed within their normal capacity. The other 25% are the more complex cases that requires further review. At the current pace, atleast 75% of the March applicants would be contacted / granted on the 4th week of February.

So when you say more complex, can we infer from this that the remaining 25% would have been at least assigned a CO and being looked into in detail?

They’re not required to fill the 12,652 visa quota but as per record, atleast 80% was filled during the previous years. So that gives you around 9.6k visa applications or roughly 4.5k cases considering each case having 1 primary and 1 secondary applicant. Backlog was also constantly high in the last 3 years having more than 10,000 applicants so it is almost impossible to clear up the pipeline. The logical thing to do is process those “simpler” cases which is next in line based on the date of lodgement to clear up and lessen the backlog.

I think so, yes. They must have a system on how they validate information provided by each applicant. Complexity of each cases varies. Aside from having an incomplete set of documents submitted, I think they have an assigned tiers or levels for each schools and companies. Some applicants might have experiences from new companies that requires deeper investigation. Simpler applicants might be the ones working from a global firm for 8 years. I’m actually also frustrated and disappointed with what is happening so I did a lot of research and review of my own to have a more realistic expectation. During the time that I lodged my visa processing time was just 2-3 months but that is just a thing of the past now. Now I’m just patiently waiting like the rest.

We will all get there, this is just to show that almost 100% grant rate in the past few years. If you submitted all the right documents and requirements. You have nothing to worry about.

I applied in the category University Lecturer (ANZSCO Code: 242111) on 11 June 2019. There are a total of only 28 (I know it from occupation celling) applications with DHA in this category from Feb/March 2019. As this skill was included in skill select list in Feb. or March 2019 only.

Very few applications; because Its very hard to hit the right score in this profession. As Univ. lectureship is hard to secure in the first place, and then you loose age points, if at all end up acquiring any points for work experience.

I did not see any other applicant in this category on here or on any other forum.

Not sure when will my turn come. Really down

I still don’t understand. There is an attachment sections where the documents are uploaded. I don’t see these yellow highlighted titles anywhere?

Hi. I lodged on 20/03/2020, I received a request letter from Immigration over the weekend. In the request letter they asked for my country police certificate which I have provided at the time of application. I have resent it again. Is this normal??? I mean, is it common that even though I have provided the document (and it is still valid till 15/03/2020) the CO asked for it. Thanks.
