Visa Grant Delay 189

I guess we will just have to wait and see how this unfolds over next couple of months. We have seen things change midway so there is a possibility not all places for partner visas will be fulfilled (I heard there is a new requirement for English test now for partner visa applications ? Not sure though).

Have you guys been waiting for long? I lodged in jan 2020 and had co contact in feb 2020. No response after that.

Well, the requirement is for new applications.

There is a backlog of 100 k for partner visa and they increased the ceiling and now they can fill around 80K places.

The allocation is already done for the visas specified in the budget, the ones unclear are 189, 190 and others skilled visa type.

The way it works is if places are not filled that creates a deficit, but unlikely they reallocate those places to any other visa.

I have been waiting for 18 months, but some folks have been waiting even 22 months as of today. There may be some others waiting even longer, not sure.

The backlog between 12 to 18 months sits at around 1k alone. I think this data was made available last month.

Oh wow. 18 months is a lot of time! Are you onshore? Sometimes I wonder what takes them so long (Especially for straight forward cases - where no points are claimed for experience).

no one knows…

Some of us offshore and onshore waiting that long.

I have been waiting for 16 months, I lodged onshore but am offshore now. Its so frustrating, moreover I don’t see any hope of getting a grant in near future.

I just signed the petition, there are 36 signatures on that petition, not sure how many signatures would be enough to draw a serious response from the Parliamentary bodies.

We need a lot.

We need signatures from residents or citizens.

So, you better ask your friends either residents or citizens from Australia to sign for you.

18 months is nothing. The Remaining Relative Visa has a 50 year processing time, and Carer visas 4.5 years.

One thing to note is that there are 10,000 easy skilled visas they can allocate from onshore through the 189 NZ stream, and they have indicated onshore will be prioritised. With that, it seems offshore invites will be greatly reduced, perhaps even nonexistent except for critical skills or employer nominated.

Well, traditionally this visa was processed within 6 months, this happened for several years.

I would say as of 2018.

We all know remaining relative visa is a joke.

No only invites. The problem is the visa applications. The ones already invited.

People who have already paid. You may not be aware of this, but this process is a long journey for many, especially applicants from onshore who may have studied in Australia and paid thousands of dollar in University fees and other studies to help them increase their chances to be invited.

This visa somewhat was luring students to the country, which was the third or fourth industry of the country.

Some of them have spent up to 80 K or more to get to this point and were moved to do it to get a permanent visa.

The government is fully aware of this, even though they make a disclaim, but they have created the program with all these elements that are interconnected.

Partner visa and family and the others except for the new parents visa that cost 60k are relatively cheap compared to all the expenses many of these students have incurred for this one.

Some Chinese students can only afford it because their parents sell their properties to help them to pay University fees.

So, there are many things behind this visa stream that you may not be aware of and explains why processing time were around 6 months. It’s also a process that takes years before being able to get an invitation.

Wish there was something we could use as reference. I am waiting since feb but some of my friends who had co contact after me got their PR already.

This long delay of 16 months have totally destroyed my life planes, it has done some irrecoverable damage. I had job offers in Aus. but could not accept because of this delay. The jobs in my field (Academia) are very very few and success rate for graduates (who get a position) is 0.04% . This is so unfair… Not sure what to do.

I called to the office of a senator and sounded very open to help.

I told him about the petition and got impressed when I told him there are around 1k applications aged between 12 to 18 months and some recent applications have been decided.

I want to pass onto him this petition as he looked very keen to help. I would also like to get the responses you have got from your complaints to either ombudsman and home and affairs.

He said they will try to help us out as I told him we have this community were we got to know from everybody’s experience all this weird things happening around visa processing.

Great work, thanks for trying to help all of us.

We’re all on the same boat.

Please to anybody who got a response from their complaints let me know as this can also be added to the petition to make a case.

What if we pass our petition onto some left wing political party like Green or Socialist Alliance etc. ? I think we could get a much bigger response as activists would certainly like to sign such a petition?

Yes, this guy is from labor and told me they’re used to handle this issues as they’re getting many cases.

Ok, I have forwarded it to a few of my activists friends. Lets see.

Great.

Many thanks.
